Zoanthids

Zoanthids — zoas — are colonial polyp corals, and they are the reason most reef keepers get hooked. Each polyp is a disc of concentric color: a skirt of tentacles, a ring, and a face, and the named morphs in this category are prized for how sharply those bands separate. One frag becomes a mat.

They are among the most forgiving corals in the hobby, which makes them both the right first coral and a lifelong collector’s item. Ours sit under 75–150 PAR with low to moderate flow, mounted low or mid-rock, at 78°F and 1.025 salinity. They color up hardest when nitrate and phosphate are actually present rather than stripped to zero — a lightly fed tank grows better zoas than a sterile one.

Every zoa on this page was grown in our own systems in Miami, cut from an established colony, and healed on the plug before it was listed. Nothing here was pulled off a reef. Aquacultured frags arrive already adapted to captive lighting, flow and parameters, which is most of why they open faster and hold color better than wild-collected stock.
